Account and Data Deletion

Effective Date: September 29, 2026

This page explains how Map My Parks users can request deletion of a Shared Map account and associated data.

1. Delete Your Account in the App

  1. Open Map My Parks.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Open Shared Map.
  4. Choose Delete Account and Data.
  5. Confirm the deletion prompt.

Deleting your account does not require another member's approval. Your cloud contributions are removed from maps you currently share and maps you previously left. Notes and photos added by other members, and trips they independently contributed to, remain available to them. If you are the last member, the cloud map is deleted.

2. Leave a Shared Map Without Deleting Your Account

In Settings > Shared Map, choose Leave Shared Map. You can keep your contributions in the map for now or remove them when you leave. Your account remains active, and another member takes over map management if needed. Contributions kept in a map are still removed if you later delete your account. If you are the last member, leaving deletes the cloud map.

The map administrator can also remove your access. This does not delete your account or your existing contributions; you can still request account and data deletion using the app or the email process below.

Blocking a member also removes one person's access to the shared map. It does not delete either account. A member who leaves through blocking can choose whether to remove their contributions. Contributions left behind remain attributable to that member and are removed if they later delete their account.

3. Request Deletion by Email

If you cannot access the app, email support@mapmyparks.com from the email address used for Shared Map sign-in and include "Account Deletion Request" in the subject line.

4. Data Deleted

  • Shared Map account records and membership records.
  • Your notes, uploaded trip photos and photo metadata in current and previously left shared maps.
  • Trip and visited-park entries attributable only to you, unless another member independently contributed to the trip or progress.
  • Your shared trip photo files stored for cloud sync; deletion is queued for retry if storage is temporarily unavailable.
  • Safety reports you submitted that are stored in the Shared Map service database.

5. Data Retained

  • On-device data remains on your device until you delete it, reset app data, or uninstall the app.
  • Other members' independently contributed notes, photos, trips, and visited-park progress remain in their shared map.
  • Copies another member already downloaded or exported are outside the Shared Map cloud service and cannot be recalled by deleting your account.
  • Google Play and Apple App Store purchase records are managed by Google and Apple.
  • Photos deleted through ordinary trip editing may have a soft-deletion period of up to 30 days. Account-deletion photo cleanup uses a separate retryable deletion process.
  • Operational, security, and legal records may be retained for a limited period where needed for abuse prevention, service integrity, or legal compliance. A report submitted through Shared Map may also have a copy in the support mailbox after its service database row is removed.

6. Subscription Management

Deleting a Shared Map account does not cancel a Pro subscription. Manage subscriptions through Google Play or the Apple App Store.
